An idea of the scale of the Surrey & Borders garden centre

Jill tracked down this ariel pic of the Old Moat Garden centre . It's quite an enterprise and clearly the workers are organised around the commercial needs of this business . We think Surrey & Borders can strike a fairer balance than its doing at the moment.

Go here to learn more about how Surrey & Borders NHS Trust has been exploiting disabled people working in its garden centre by cutting their £3 a day wages to nothing.

The Trust obviously had reasons to modernise pay structures at the garden centre. Most garden centres would not have disabled people working in them, the Old Moat centre workers should remember that and be grateful they have something useful to do with their time.

In answer to the previous anonymous
comment discrimination against disabled people in employment is not a reason to carry on discriminating. In fact the Disability Discrimination Act makes this illegal. It is wrong to treat the disabled differently from other workers.
Would workers who are not disabled be grateful to work as unpaid labour as the Old Moat Garden Centre workers are expected to do now? Would the NHS managers give up their salaries as a modernisation excercise and be grateful to do their jobs for nothing? No of course they would not.
In fact on South Today last week they had an item about a garden centre in Reading which does employ disabled workers and pays proper rates for the job. If they can do it then so can the NHS managers who run the Old Moat Garden Centre.

It should be noted that any discrimination against anyone with a disability is illegal! Surrey and Borders NHS Partership should take note this is now a public issue and should rectify this promptly.
